Sakoontra (Thai)

We all love to try new things. Wether its bunjee jumping, tatoos, piercings, you name it!!! Along with all those things I just mentioned, myself particularly, love trying new foods. Something about the burst of different flavors that explodes in your mouth is far more exhilarating and orgasmic than buying a new pair of shoes..well okay...not the shoes, but you guys get the point! Some people, such as my fiance Sean, hate mixing different flavors together. He hates eating sweet then spicy or eating meat and chicken...weird huh? well as for myself? well... I love em all...the more flavors, the better.

This weekend, we not only not have tried 1 but 2 different locations in Northern Virginia. Thai for lunch and Korean food for dinner. I was a happy woman. So my taste buds craved for a mixture of flavors waitin to burst in my mouth.
Lets start with Thai Food.

Restaurant Name: Sakoontra
Location: 12300 Costco Plaza
Fairfax, VA 22030-6146

Thai Cuisine is the national cuisine of the country Thailand in Southeast Asia. Thai food is usually known for their spicy taste and aromatic components. It is also known for their hot and spicy, sour, sweet, and at times bitter mixtures of their food.

We started off with a thai drink called "Thai tea" also known as "Thai Iced Tea" or Cha-yen (gotta love Google) Its a drink made from a strongly brewed black tea along with other ingredients such as orange blosson water, tamarind seed, orange/red/yellow food coloring. Condense milk is also added and sugar to mix for its sweetness. When I first tried it, I have to admit, I didnt like it as much but I kind of got use to its sweet taste. Its different yet ohhh soo yummy!

For appetizer, we wanted to get on the healthy road and tried their Fried Tofu with house sweet sauce. Yes I know, the face that my bestfriend made when my mouth uttered the word "Tofu" was priceless. She made a face that said "wtf and why"  all at the same time and screaming "NOOOOOO" with her eyes. It was HILARIOUS to say the least.

For the main course... I tried their Pad Thai, a dish of stir fried rice noodles and eggs and fish sauce with a combination of bean sprouts, green onions, peanuts, coriander, and lime. You get to have a choice of adding Chicken, Beef or Shrimp on it. I chose Shrimp. Ive been to alot of Thai restaurants and each pad thai that Ive had never tasted like the one before. Their Pad Thai was good but not the best that Ive ever had the chance of eating.

My friend had Drunken Noodles but on the menu it might say " Pad ke mao" which basically translates to Drunken noodles, well, atleast wikipedia says so. =) The dish was slightly spicy made of broader noodles, fish sauce, soy sauce and also has a choice of Chicken, Beef, or Shrimp. Also, for this dish, if youre into Spicy food, the waitress asked my friend if she wanted to make it a little bit more spicy than usual.

The Restaurant had an okay service. Ive been to better thai restaurants before but all in all, it was worth the money and the restaurant is not busy during lunch hours. 3 out of 5 stars. (hey hey hey..Im very serious about my food lol) So if you are around the area and looking to try some thai food. This restaurant is good for its price.
